Mill Park was build on the site of the former Edwards Manufacturing Mill. The Edwards Mill was a major part of August’s economy and history, but the abandoned mill building burned down in 1993. Since then, the open area left by the mill and surrounding spaces has been actively developed into a social gathering and recreational park along the banks of the scenic Kennebec River.
One of the more prominent features is the pavilion built to house the Farmer’s Market as well as other events and gatherings. The complex also includes a fenced in dog park, a set of petanque courts, a kayak launch, and walking paths. There is also a large open space for an ice rink in the winter and large community events such as the yearly Independence Day celebration.
